I am Hissan Gul — a Pakistan-based specialist in audience analysis, data-driven strategy, ethical OSINT, and strategic communication. I’m also a trainer in journalism OSINT and AI in journalism, and have trained 300+ early-career professionals across Pakistan’s leading universities and newsrooms. For 15+ years I’ve turned what audiences already say — in their own words, in public — into strategy, content, and campaigns that earn trust and waste less money. I start by listening; everything else follows from that.

The Problem

Spending more isn’t a strategy.

Illustration showing rising ad spend without a matching strategy

When results are weak, most organisations reach for the same fix: spend more. More ads, more boosts, more budget behind a message the audience was never going to care about. The budget is rarely the problem. The problem is that no one checked what the audience actually thinks — in their own words — before the campaign went live.

I work in the opposite order. I listen first: the questions people ask, the language they use, the concerns they repeat. Then I build the message around what’s already there. Budget becomes the accelerator, not the crutch.

How I Work

From signal to strategy.

Signal
Sentiment
Story
Spend
Scale

Every project I run follows the same path — a method I call the Signal-to-Strategy Pipeline:

  • Signal — Listen to what your audience is already saying across open, public channels.
  • Sentiment — Map how they actually feel, and why — not how we assume they feel.
  • Story — Frame the message around what’s already there, in language they recognise.
  • Spend — Put budget behind a message that’s been tested against reality, so it travels further.
  • Scale — Turn what works into a repeatable system, not a one-off campaign.

Most campaigns are built in reverse. That’s the whole difference.

What I Do

One principle. Applied across everything.

Every engagement starts the same way: understand the audience before you act. From there, the work takes whatever shape the problem needs.

Audience & data analysis

Reading what people actually think, say, and do — through social listening, search behaviour, and the patterns hidden in your own data — so decisions rest on evidence, not assumptions.

Ethical OSINT & verification

Open-source research and verification that stands up to scrutiny, for teams that need to know what’s true before they act or publish.

Content built on evidence

Content systems and production shaped by what your audience actually responds to — not trends or guesswork.

Paid media that respects the budget

Ad campaigns architected from real audience data, designed to lower how much you depend on spend over time.

Strategy & training

Communication strategy for organisations, and hands-on training that leaves your team able to do this work themselves.

Different problems, one method: listen first, then act.

Track Record

The work behind the numbers.

  • 15+ years across newsrooms, the development sector, e-commerce, and strategic communications — designing messages for Pakistani and emerging-market audiences since 2011.
  • $200,000 in paid media architected, building a cumulative audience network of over 400 million across Pakistan, South Asia, the US, Canada, the UK, and Europe.
  • 300+ journalists and students trained — through The Independent’s Indy In Campus programme and workshops at Bahria University, Fatima Jinnah Women University, SZABIST Islamabad, NUST, the International Islamic University Islamabad, Hazara University, the University of Peshawar, and Rawalpindi Women University.
  • An 80+ person network of journalists and contributors, coordinated across 10+ countries for content development, assignment, and distribution.
  • PKR 25 million raised through a single digital fundraising campaign, alongside Pakistan’s first indigenous Zakat Calculator and other decision-support tools.
  • Delivered for clients across sectors — real estate, government ministries and public-sector institutions, international development organisations (INGOs/NGOs), hospitality, education, healthcare, and e-commerce.

Who I Work With

For organisations that can’t afford to guess.

I do my best work with organisations that can’t afford to guess — NGOs and development teams, healthcare, ethical brands, newsrooms, and education groups. The common thread isn’t the sector; it’s the stakes. When a budget is tight, a message is sensitive, or an audience is hard to read, that’s exactly where a listen-first approach earns its keep.

I work especially with organisations operating in Pakistan and other emerging markets, where reading the local audience correctly — in the right language, on the right platform — is the whole game, and where imported playbooks quietly fail.

If you’re about to invest in a campaign — or you wish the last one had gone further — start with a conversation. No pitch. Just an honest read on whether I can help, and what it would take.
